The next big tablet launch, the Google Nexus 8, is now rumoured to be getting manufactured by HTC. Rumour is rife in this case however, as the only real evidence we have to go on is from a reported bug for Google Chrome, which listed a codename of ‘Flounder’ There was no real indicator of what Flounder was, but general consensus says it will be the ‘sequel’ to the Nexus 7, i.e. the Nexus 8. Fingers crossed they’re right.
More information found on Flounder came from an Android update changelog for version 4.4.3, which listed changes for a Flounder, listed along with HTC. This may indicate HTC are involved with Flounder.
While this again isn’t concrete evidence, some believe that the Nexus 8 might be addition to the line and then Asus will build an updated and upgraded Nexus 7 for 2014. The same changelog also lists another codename ‘Molly’. Nobody really knows what that is yet. Speculations include it potentially being a new successor to the Nexus 5.
Of course, these speculations could be just that. In time we will most likely cover these devices as actual solid information is revealed, but for now you’ll have to keep on wondering.
