Google Photovine photo sharing app launches on iPhone

Keen to show they are always innovating, and not just for their own Android platform, Google have just announced the release of a rather snazzy new photo sharing app called Photovine for iPhone.

Photovine was announced by Google this Tuesday, but the app is now available in the Apple App Store. The catch is that it’s an invite-only affair right now, much like Google+. You can head over to Google’s official Photovine page right now and register your interest as we have, but be quick; Google’s invite-only ideas tend to be very popular!

So what is Photovine? It’s a unique take on both photo sharing and social networking with the focus on sharing photos, otherwise known as creating a vine. The idea is to take a photo and upload it to your page for your friends, family and followers to see. What they’ll then do is take a picture in response, add a caption and upload it to your Photovine.

It’s not just your friends and followers who can help make a vine, it would seem that there will be popular vines that can be added to, similar to Twitter’s Trending Topics but with photos. Google say there will be major “vines” such as ‘party people’ which you can upload your party snaps to. Google explain it fully in their blurb:

A vine is like a constantly growing family of photos connected through a common caption created by you, your friends, and people all over the world. Some examples of vines could be: “What Weekends Are Made Of”, “Secret Stuffed Animal”, “Party People”, or, “Love of My Life”. As people add photos to vines, they tell their own stories about the moments, images, and ideas that define our lives in a way that’s social, creative, and fun.

You can download the app for iPhone now but you’ll need to register for an invite on the Photovine page here. There will also be an Android version coming along soon, too.
