Google Play reaches 25 Million downloads and offers discounts to celebrate

Google will be celebrating this week as the Google Play store has reached over 25 billion apps downloaded, and to thank us users for this whopping amount of downloads Google is going to throw a few discounts our way!

Google is planning a week’s worth of massive discounts on applications from some of the biggest developers across the Play Store, which currently holds a huge 675,000 apps and games.

Discounts will include 25 movies you ‘must own’, 25 ‘banned books’, 25 albums that ‘changed the world’ and Google’s top 25 selling magazines. Following on from the 25 trend, Google will also be selling a host of apps for $0.25 in the US. There’s currently no word on the UK pricing for these discounted apps, but 25p would nice!

Games and apps from big-name brands such as Gameloft, EA, Rovio, Runtastic and Full Fat, as well as a host of special collections in honour of the new achievement. Google has also thrown us a few fun facts with the announcement too:

“Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago. It’s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe.”

Now we are not sure if this line of 25 discounts will be limited to the US or if we will be getting anything similar in the UK, but we can hope!
