Although there has been no official announcement from the search engine giant about a new VoIP based service, evidence of its existence has been found within Google Voice by the peeps over at Disruptive Telephony.
So based on this discovery, I’m guessing that it’s Google’s intention to roll out a new VoIP service, but I wonder how long we may have to wait for any official announcement?
Disruptive Telephony has said that by taking your Google Voice number and append it with “@sip.voice.google.com” this will give you a perfectly working SIP URI that will be compatible with any SIP phone (which is almost all mobile phones currently on the market).
Unfortuantely though, it would seem that it’s a bit hit and miss at the moment as it does’nt seem to work for every Google Voice user, but if you happen to use Google Voice user and are interested in using VoIP, you’ve got nothing to lose by giving it a go.
