Google’s Asus Nexus 7 Tablet to Launch Later This Month

[tab name=’News’]

While Apple seems to be stealing all the headlines at the moment with its WWDC event, its most bitter rival Google is planning its big show of the year, Google I/O 2012.

Each year the company reveals plenty of exciting new technology across its vast array of products, and it usually announces an update to the Android operating system. Rumours are circulating that this year, the company will reveal its first ever own-brand tablet device.

We’ve heard loads about a Google Nexus tablet in the past few months, and crux of the recent rumours seems to suggest a 7-inch device that’s made by Asus. An Asus rep has exclusively told Android Authority that the company is indeed making a 7-inch tablet for Google, and that it will make its first public appearance at Google I/O later this month.

The event takes place between June 27th and 29th, at the very same venue that Apple is currently using for WWDC – the Moscone Centre in San Francisco. The Asus representative reportedly spoke to a member of Android Authority during the Computex show last week, and said that the Google Asus tablet would be along at the end of June, which can only mean it will appear at I/O.

The tablet is expected to feature a speedy quad-core processor from Nvidia, and a surprisingly low price point of around £200, which could see it go into direct competition with the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Google has a history of revealing Android updates each year at the I/O conference, and this year we can expect Android 4.1 – aka Jelly Bean – to be announced. The Nexus 7 tablet will almost certainly be running this software when it launches.

With just 15 days to go until Google’s big reveal, we’re sure there are some excited Android-aholics out there. Are you one of them?
