If the new Samsung and Acer Chromebooks don’t take your fancy but you really like Google’s new Chrome OS and just happen to have an old MacBook Air lying about, you’re in luck!
That is because Chrome OS hacker Hexxeh has ported the lastest version of Chrome OS to his MacBook Air. The port is almost 100% successful and below is a list of working features.
Working:
– WiFi works
– Graphics are fully accelerated via nVidia’s drivers
– Screen brightness controls work
– Sound works
– Touchpad works, the drivers could use some tweaking as the touchpad is very slow
Not Working:
– Bluetooth
Basically everything works! The only reason Bluetooth does not work is the Chrome OS does not support it yet.
The OS was booted using Boot Camp Bios Emulator and the boot Boot time is around 22 seconds to the login screen, most of which is wasted by Apple’s EFI implementation, as once control is passed to the kernel the boot only takes a further 6-7 seconds thanks to the fast SSD inside the Air.
So this could be the perfect combination for anyone who loves Apple’s build quality, but can’t be without Google software.
The new Macbook Air range was launched today by Apple, check them out here!
