New HP TouchPad owners in the US who snapped up a bargain after the recent demise of WebOS and the subsequent price plummet of the just-released tablet may be delighted to know they can now pick up $30-worth of apps free of charge.
The Palm Blog reveals details of the “refreshing, and free 6-pack” of apps on offer for the HP TouchPad, including a random mix of hit or miss software titles. There’s Glimpse – an “addictive” split screen multi-tasking feature, monster-battling casual game Big Boss, ‘popular’ desktop game Sparkle HD (no we hadn’t heard of it either), picture managing Camera for TouchPad as well as Kung Fu Panda Storybook and most bewildering of all Audubon Birds, a searchable guide to Northern American birds – complete with bird songs..
Quite a eclectic (or desperate) mix of applications, which leaves us wondering if we should hope over to eBay and grab one of the “prototype” Android-packing HP slabs which have been popping up over there since the withdraw of WebOS as an operating platform. Superior range of apps, many available for free – and Angry Birds!
If your an HP TouchPad owner in the States and do, however, want to keep things legit you can get over to the Palm Blog for details on how to grab the promotional code, and the somewhat unappetising “6-pack” – http://blog.palm.com/
The Gadget Helpline is awaiting word on whether our own TouchPad owners will be able to search the UK’s wildlife through a similar freebie apps scheme. We’re pretty sure the face of the tablet’s promotion, Brit funnyman Russell Brand, is a keen ornithologist!
