HTC One X to get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and Sense 5.5 soon

  • by

HTC will soon be blessing last year’s flagship Android smartphone with a taste of Jelly Bean, as well as its own Sense 5.5 user interface.

Despite the launch of the new One family this year, HTC hasn’t forgot about the One X and One X+ which were its top devices last year. The company looks set to bring Android 4.2.2 to the older model later this year, according to a recent blog post by Vodafone UK.

The network likes to keep its customers in the loop when it comes to software updates and recently shared the good news, along with details on the Sony Xperia Z’s planned Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update. According to Voda, HTC is preparing to submit the software to them for testing, so they should have it within the next few weeks.

Testing can still take weeks or even months as each mobile network likes to give new updates a thorough going over to see if any potential problems could arise on customer devices. Each network also usually likes to test its own apps and third party services to ensure they’ll still be working well with the new software, so don’t go tapping that ‘Check for updates’ button just yet!

The new software will take the One X from Android 4.1.2 to a newer version of Jelly Bean, 4.2.2, along with Sense 5.5 from HTC. This means that last year’s model will in fact sport many of the same features as the shiny new HTC One, so it’s bound to be welcomed with open arms by One X owners who have no doubt been eyeing up the new model as an upgrade.

Features found in the new update will include BlinkFeed, which turns one of your home screens into a constant scrolling page of tiles which consist of news, videos and pictures from your favourite websites and also your social networks.

Vodafone’s blog post didn’t put a date on the update’s availability but we would expect it to roll out within the next 1-2 months. Other UK networks will be doing the same, and the software is likely to arrive on SIM-free (unbranded) models even sooner.
