In the tech world it’s often a case of “anything you can do we can do better” between companies. Apple has just announced the iPhone 5S with a fingerprint scanner and now it looks as though HTC will have the same feature in its forthcoming One Max phone.
We’ve seen the One Max, a giant version of the HTC One, a number of times in various leaked images. This latest one, coming from Chinese social site Weibo, shows the giant phone clearly outsizing the two HTC One models sitting either side of it.
The phone is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display, making it a poised rival for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra. But more exciting than the phone’s gargantuan size is the small clear square that’s located under the rear camera – what could it possibly be?
Well, we’re told that the mystery square is in fact a fingerprint scanner, akin to the hot new feature on Apple’s recently unveiled iPhone 5S. Interestingly it’s placed on the back of the phone rather than the front, in exactly the same place as the rather differently placed volume button on the LG G2 – perhaps HTC has also cottoned on to the fact that we place our index fingers here often when on the phone.
Aside from the fingerprint sensor, the HTC One Max is expected to feature a huge 6.4-inch Full HD Super LCD 3 display, speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor running at a cool 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, micro SD card slot, the UltraPixel camera and finally the latest Android 4.3 software accompanied by HTC’s own Sense 5.5 user interface.
We’re still unsure as to when we can expect to learn more about the One Max in a more official manner, as the rumoured IFA launch has now been and gone. From the increasing number of images popping up online of the phone we can only imagine it’s a matter of time now, though.
