HTC Connect Streaming Software Announced – Apple AirPlay for HTC Phones

[tab name=’News’]

HTC has announced its own proprietary AV streaming solution called HTC Connect, which it hopes will provide its mobile users with the best quality and most reliable AV streaming.

HTC Connect will work in a similar way to Apple’s AirPlay, which enables easy streaming of music and video to Hi-Fi systems, Apple TV and other compatible accessories via a Wi-Fi connection.

The first HTC products to benefit from the new feature will be – yep, you guessed it – the new One range, including the One X, One S and One V. All three phones will get Connect added as a software update later in the year, although HTC hasn’t confirmed exactly when that will be.

Initially we’ll see HTC Connect compatible devices using the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standard, although HTC has already expressed a desire to push the feature further in the future, expanding to use Bluetooth and NFC with speakers and audio systems.

“The use of smartphones as primary content sources in the home is a trend that’s developing very quickly, and HTC is helping to provide a much-needed solution for a very significant and growing part of the market,” said Russ Johnston, executive vice president of Pioneer Electronics Home Electronics Division.

Pioneer is the first company to cosy up to HTC’s new standard, and will be launching DLNA-compatible audio and video receivers as well as wireless speakers that comply with HTC Connect.

Connect seems like a promising feature and will certainly give HTC users something to shout about. Apple’s AirPlay has become very popular recently with plenty of manufacturers getting on board, but will HTC’s option become as successful?
