HTC Desire 8 revealed to be a big, thin and white mid-range phone

  • by

The Desire range is one of HTC’s longest-running series of phones, and from new leaked images it looks as though the company has plans to continue the brand name further with the HTC Desire 8. Although, we’ve had the Desire 200, 500, 600 and 700 so we’re expecting the official name of this new phone to be the HTC Desire 800.

HTC started something of a revolution in the Android world with the hugely successful Desire handset and from there we’ve seen its evolution, although the name has now become synonymous with mid-range devices whilst the newer One brand steals the show with its all-singing, all-dancing handsets.

Chinese website MyDrivers has revealed an image of a phone it claims to be the HTC Desire 8 – an unreleased mid-range Android phone from the Taiwanese company. The image certainly looks like one of HTC’s familiar official product renders, showing the front, back and left edge of the phone clearly. It’s noticeably bigger than previous Desire phones and finished in glossy white, with a distinct look of ‘iPod Touch’ about it.

According to the source, the Desire 8 will be bigger than any Desire phone before it, sporting a huge 5.5-inch display. Previously HTC’s biggest phone which wasn’t a flagship model was the Desire 700, featuring a 5-inch display. The Desire 8 will essentially sit between the HTC One and the HTC One Max in terms of size and will technically fall into the ‘phablet’ category.

MyDrivers claims that the phone will rock a 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and an impressive-sounding 5 megapixel front facing camera which apparently features a “beautification” mode. The rear camera is located right in the top left corner on the back of the phone, which again reminds us of Apple’s iPod Touch.

Just like the HTC One, there are front-facing stereo speakers above and below the display but there’s no confirmation that this features the company’s BoomSound technology or Beats Audio. Interestingly there are no buttons below the display or even on the display in the image above, so there’s a chance the design here isn’t final.

The Desire 8 is said to be coming in white, red, yellow, orange and cyan in order to make it stand out from the crowd. If you take a look at the screen you’ll see two networks at the top – indicating that the phone will be dual SIM – and a date of March 18th – the date of HTC’s official announcement? Who knows.
