Recently announced HTC Explorer travels to Vodafone UK network

Here’s a quick follow-up to yesterday’s announcement of the HTC Explorer and Three’s statement and video heralding the new models arrival to it’s already stacked range. As expected, fellow UK network Vodafone has chimed in today to announce its own involvement in the budget-range smartphone’s launch.

As with Three, we await prices and a release date, but pop over to Vodafone’s website today and look up the HTC Explorer and you’ll find a page marker outlining the PAYG mobile’s very basic of features and also a ‘Keep me Updated’ option – with the promise of full details coming soon. Those details were released from HTC yesterday and we delivered the news in our previous article which is repeated below:

The HTC Explorer has gone walkabout for the first time, with the Taiwanese tech co. giving it a first public outing in picture form and also revealing some of the spec behind the little wanderer which is aimed at the middle of the market mobile buyer.

The handset looks set to undercut the Wildfire S as the ‘affordable’ smart-phone of the HTC range if we look at the technical details. The HTC Explorer will come in 3 tones – a metallic blue, traditional black and a rubberised effect for the active mobile user. It’ll feature a diminutive HVGA touchscreen which measures just 3.2” and the camera snaps at a respectable 3-megapixel – a nice size, casual and pocket-friendly shooter, but with no flash however.

As standard the gadget comes with the latest suitable Android – 2.3.4 Gingerbread with HTC Sense bringing the weather app and social integration with the FriendStream. A built in web browser can handle Flash and URL prediction and all this comes running in on a not-too-shabby 600MHz CPU.

Nothing fancy here with the HTC Explorer but a nice contender for the cruiserweight title of the smartphone market, appealing for the budget-conscious mobile buyer looking to experience a smartphone but isn’t too demanding of the spec. It’s expected to arrive in November and the Gadget Helpline will be following this little fellow on his journey..
