Is a HTC One (M8) Mini being released in May?

For many HTC’s new flagship Smartphone, the HTC One (M8), has been landing on doorsteps and desks over the past 48 hours, but no sooner does the android running handset get released, do our thoughts start turning to the (assumed) miniature follow-up smartphone, the HTC One (M8) Mini.

With the advent of much larger smartphone, the last few years have seen a rise in the Mini/Lite/Micro versions of many a flagship Smartphone. HTC, Samsung, Nokia and Sony all released smaller versions of their leading handsets last year (as well as bigger Phablet versions too!) and HTC are looking to follow up on the coveted The HTC One (M8) with a Mini version soon.

It’s also looking like we won’t have to wait very long for the min handset either, as tech site 3G.co.uk is reporting that an unnamed source inside a UK retailer has confirmed that the handset will be arriving in May.

The same source states that the M8 Mini will come with the same aluminium uni-body design as the new HTC One but with a slightly smaller 4.5 Inch screen. It’ll also be dropping the famed Duo camera on the HTC One in favour for a single cam.

So, an unnamed source form an undisclosed place possibly isn’t the safest bet, and the information about what the handset would entail can be classed as a pretty safe assumption, as would saying the handset sports a Quad-Core Qualcomm processor and runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

However, if HTC did release a One (M8) Mini handset in May then this would curt the life span of the previous HTC One Mini in half, as the current version was only released in August of 2013, but with some legal issues with Nokia surrounding patent infringement, HTC may be keen to move on from the original One Mini handset.

It’s all a bit more speculation than fact, but seeing as we love the M8, a mini version would be a very nice alternative to those with smaller budgets (and possibly pockets!).
