The once promising HTC Titan has been dropped from most of the U.K’s big retailers.
Believed to be down to poor sales five networks as well as high street stores Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U are amongst those pulling the flagship Windows Phone from the shelves. But there is also word that a successor model mobile will be coming soon to take the spot left by the disappointing seller and hopefully get HTC’s Windows efforts back on track. The original HTC Titan had us excited us with a 1.5GHz CPU and generous 4.7” display, as well as its 512MB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA and DLNA connectivity and 8-megapixel camera.
Regardless of how much the Gadget Helpline or the legion of HTC fans liked what they heard, the gadget, which was only released in September, seems to have failed to impress when it came to the sales figures. This is not helped by the Windows Phone 7 platform, despite being impressive in itself, currently only commanding 2.2% of the mobile OS coverage in the U.K. With such hype over Nokia’s Lumia 800 and follow-ups 900 and 710, we think HTC’s Titan may have gotten a little lost in the melee and the Taiwanese mobile co. were swept aside by the promotional wave of Microsoft’s best mobile buddy, Nokia.
That aforementioned HTC Titan II was announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show back in January, set to come along with the same 4.7” display and equally adequate processing power as the previous model. But this will boast a few improvements including some new features like LTE compatibility – at least for those in the United States lucky enough to be already hooked up to 4G speeds. The next Titan is headed to Europe soon, but we’ve got a bit of a wait to get our data services up to speed, so we’re unsure of where another 3G HTC Titan will find itself in a market which has recently rejected its dated sibling..
