Rumours are suggesting that the next Android-based Google Nexus tablet may be in production by Taiwanese tech manufacturer HTC under the guise of Volantis.
The codename Volantis may or may not be a reference to a city named in the Game of Thrones books and TV show but it certainly looking likely it’s going to be the flagship slate for the Google brand heading into 2015 and some unconfirmed specs have been announced by Android Police– a web source which has been following the Volantis since the first rumours of its existence came to light.
Android Police is ‘confident’ that the HTC Volantis is soon set to join the Google Nexus family as the Nexus 9 and as its latest addition will feature an 8.9-inch touchscreen with 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution to display the next iteration of Android. This is likely to be version 5.0, which is believed to be called ‘Lollipop’. The first details of the new OS should surface at Google I/O event this week, starting on the 25th of June.
The Volantis/Nexus tablet is also suggested to pack a 2.5GHz Nvidia TegraK1 processor (64-bit) with 16GB to 32GB storage variation, with speculated price-tags of $399 to $499 respectively.
The Google Nexus 9 is set for release in Q4 and if history repeats it’ll be around October/November time. With rumours becoming louder and more convincing by the minute a HTC made Nexus tablet may get a mention as soon as tomorrow’s Google conference.
A companion app for the Google I/O event is available on Google Play now, with information about the keynote and all the week’s announcements.
