Since being announced, there’s been a lot of speculation surrounding just what will feature in HTC Sense 3.0 – HTC’s custom user interface for Android smartphones.
We already know that there will be customisable app lockscreens, 3D icons and widgets, and a 360-degree carousel-style homescreen. Thanks to HTC’s UK roadshow that has recently kicked off in Manchester, Android Central were able to get their hands on a pre-production model of the HTC Sensation which will be the first HTC handset to come with HTC Sense 3.0.
A new feature has been discovered within the depths of Sense 3.0’s settings – a Swype-style keyboard called HTC Trace. It works in pretty much the same way as Swype, whereby a user can simply drag their finger from letter to letter on the keyboard to type a word, rather than individually tapping each character.
Android Central notes that Trace is disabled by default, but can be turned on within the Keyboard Settings menu. At present, Swype for the Android platform is an app still in its Beta phases, so HTC may be looking to beat them to the release with Sense 3.0. Swype has been around for a long time, and the Beta has been pretty lengthy so we would expect to see a more refined app from them. Will Trace be better than Swype? We’ll have to wait and see.
