Huawei announces huge 5-inch Ascend P7 with 8MP selfie camera

Well, the selfie is well and truly taking over culture at the moment, but not Chinese smartphone manufacturers Huawei have gone and upped the ante, by announcing the Ascend P7 which comes with a massive 8mp front facing camera, for high definition selfies!

Stepping up from their successful Ascend P6 models of last year, the Ascend P7 is set to bring Huawei’s game up to the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One (M8) with its strong specs and build.

The Ascend P7 shares many of the same design as 2013’s Ascend P6, including its slim build and simple layout, but this time the screen has been maximised to 5-inches and with the inclusion of cat 4 LTE 4G to take it a step away from its predecessor.

The larger screen is supported by Gorilla Glass 3 front and back panels which means that the 1920 x 1080 441ppi pixel resolution, is safe and matches that of the HTC One (M8). Inside there is a 1.8GHz quad-core Hi Silicon Kirin 910T chipset with a Mali 450 GPU and this is running off 2GB of RAM.

For the larger screen there is a 2500mAh battery, with Huawei’s reverse charge function, which means you can use it to charge up other devices on the fly with your phone battery. And inside users will have access to 16GB of internal storage, with support for microSD cards up to 64GB, which will be more than enough for those supper sized selfies.

Now onto said cameras, the 8MP beast on the front of the phone is still not the main feature, as on the back of the Ascend P7 there is a Sony-built 13-megapixel camera. But its still the Front facing cam that has the special features, as the 8-megapixel front-facing camera comes with a f/2.4 aperture, 1.4 micrometre pixel size and a 5-piece lens, all of which add up to some serious selfies.

As with all new Android Handsets, the Huawei Ascend P7 launches with the Android 4.4 KitKat software and the companies own Emotion UI 2.3 skin.

We loved the P6, but it had some major shortcoming in the top end smartphone market, but Huawei seem to have upped their game for the P7. The Huawei Ascend P7 will be available in June 2014 in the UK, but pricing is yet to be confirmed, however it is currently priced at €449 in Europe, so using a direct conversion the phone could RRP for as little as £370 over here.
