After this week’s big announcement from Microsoft, its forthcoming Windows Phone 8 platform for mobile devices, little-known smartphone manufacturer Huawei has announced that it will be releasing its first ever Windows Phone handset.
The news has come from Huawei’s chief marketing officer Shao Yang, who in a press release states,:
“We are poised to end the year with a big bang – with the introduction of our first smartphone running on the Windows Phone platform.”
“We’re very excited about this relationship with Microsoft which will enable us to provide our customers with a bigger array of Huawei smartphone choices.”
Huawei has been rumoured to be one of the partner vendors of Microsoft’s next software release but the press release confirms that the up and coming brand will be releasing their own handset.
At present there’s no news yet on any branding for the phone, but as Huawei has a successful Ascend line of phones which currently run Android OS it may bring this across to Windows Phone. However, as like other manufacturers, the manufacturer may set up a new brand line for WP8.
There are no specifications, release dates or any other information for the Windows Phone 8-sporting Huawei smartphone, but the company said it expects the handset to enter markets in Europe, China and the U.S.
