Both Huawei and ZTE are making big bids to get their names known in the smartphone market lately, with the former going back to its budget roots with the new Honour smartphone.
Huawei revealed the Honour way back at the end of 2011, so we’ve been waiting for a long time for the chance to buy one. While it was originally supposed to launch packing Android 4.0, the Honour is now shipping with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on board.
Older software aside, the Honour still offers a 1.4GHz processor and 4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 854 x 580 pixels. An 8-megapixel rear camera provides decent quality snaps and Full HD 1080p video capture while a front facing option will sort you out for video calling.
The Huawei Honour isn’t the slimmest or lightest of phones at 10.9mm thick and 140g in weight, but it does pack in a fairly big 1900mAh battery to make up for the slightly larger frame. This battery is the key to one of the Honour’s best traits – a long battery life, as far as smartphones these days go.
We’re hearing that the software will be upgradable to Android 4.0 in the near future, which it should well be capable of going by the specifications. We’ll need to wait to hear for official confirmation from Huawei on that one though.
The RRP is £250, while UK retailers Clove and Expansys are offering it at a lower price – £238.80 and £210 respectively. These prices are for the SIM-free model, which means you can use an existing or new SIM from any UK network.
