Recently we heard rumours of a giant Windows Phone lurking deep in Nokia HQ. A phone so-called the ‘Bandit’ which featured a whopping 6-inch screen that would put even the Samsung Galaxy Note II in the shade. That phone has now been pictured for the very first time and it looks to be as big as we thought.
Windows Phone Central obtained what purports to be the very first image of the ‘Bandit’, which we recently learned will be known officially as the Lumia 1520. The phone, finished in Nokia’s red colour, sits in a clip-on case with a rather swish looking soft flip cover to protect the front.
Sat side-by-side with the enormous phone and looking somewhat dwarfed is the Lumia 1020, Nokia’s newest phone which features a 4.5-inch display. The Lumia 1520 is said to sport a huge 6-inch screen, putting it in the same leagues as the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Huawei Ascend Mate, and from the image it certainly looks like a big toy.
The Verge’s Tom Warren, who is a long-time Nokia and Microsoft insider, has already claimed the photo is real. The same site originally revealed the phone’s identity as the ‘Bandit’, also confirming that it will feature a 6-inch Full HD 1080p screen and quad-core processing power from Qualcomm.
Nokia has never released a phone of this screen size and will only be doing so once Microsoft releases its next major Windows Phone update, which is currently known as GDR3. This update will usher in a new generation of more powerful Windows Phones thanks to support for Full HD displays and quad-core processors, and it looks as though this new Nokia phone will be leading the way.
