Ice Cream Sandwich Update Coming to Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A100 in April

  • by

Owners of the Acer Iconia A500 Android Tablet will be pleased to hear that the latest version of Android – 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich – should be landing in April.

Acer’s Australia and New Zealand department made an official announcement via their Facebook page, though when responding to eager customer’s comments, they couldn’t confirm exactly which date in April, nor when A500 Tabs outside of Oz and NZ will be updating. Generally this type of update will roll out to all devices worldwide within 2-3 weeks.

Great news, everyone! We’ve just got confirmation from HQ that the Iconia Tab A500 will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in April. No exact date yet, but we’ll let you know when we have it. What are you looking forward to most in ICS?

You may notice that Acer has only mentioned one model, the A500. There’s a 3G version of the same tablet called the A501, though when customers have asked if this device will get the update at the same time, Acer’s reps have declined to comment. The same goes for the A500’s little brothers, the Iconia A100 and A101.

The A500 range has been around since May of last year, although Acer’s more recently released A200 Android Tablet is set to get the update long before April. We’re sure this delay is bound to grind the gears of many A500 and A501 owners, coupled with the fact that ASUS’ older tablets will be updating this month.

Are you an A500 or A501 owner? Tell us what you’re looking forward to about the ICS update.

UPDATE: Acer’s American department has tweeted to confirm that the smaller A100 Tab will also be getting the update to Android 4.0 in April as well.
