A while back we told you that it was expected that the extremely popular camera app that is available exclusively on Apple iOS devices would hopefully be available in the not too distant future for Android users as well. At the time though, it was briefly mentioned on a blog for Instagram, although no firm date as to when it may launch was announced.
Although this may not be the case anymore, as during this year’s SXSW event Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have now actually confirmed in an interview that there is actually an Android version on the way – and it’s coming very soon indeed. Systrom even said that in some ways the Android version of the app is actually better than their current iOS version.
For iOS users, Instagram is arguably the most popular way to share your creative pictures and publish them online for all to see. Today, Instagram has 27 million registered users, with an impressive 12 million users who have started to use the app in the last three months alone.
We’re certainly keen to see just how popular Instagram will be on the Android OS, after all there are now plenty of similar alternatives such as Lightbox and Mytubo, therefore it might not be an instant hit amongst Android users – I’ll guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
