So, Apple has finally announced what we were all waiting for – Kind of. It’s certainly a new iPad. And to back that point it’s literally called “The New iPad”. But the tablet comes to us in the same vein as the iPhone 4S, and Apple has again not committed to a full product revamp this time around. Instead the iPad gets a little spruce up and a few added features – most notably a new high definition 9.7” display with 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, A5X processor delivering quad-core graphics, a camera boost to 5-megapixels and the inclusion of voice assistant software Siri. So not bad at all really, but still not the iPad 3 as was previously hoped for (Read the Gadget Helpline’s full announcement coverage of the “New” iPad – Here).
The New iPad will go on sale on March 16th with a 16GB model costing £399, 32GB will be £479 and the full-fat 64GB is £559. Opting for the Wi-Fi and 3G connected (4G in the US) versions will, of course, cost a far bit extra with prices weighing in at £499 for the 16GB, £559 for 32GB and £659 for the 64GB. The Carphone Warehouse has announced it will be offering a trade-in scheme for customers to save an extra few quid on their new Apple tablet.
If you’re not entirely sold on what you’ve seen and were holding out on buying a second wave Apple gadget now is your chance to grab the slab as the inevitable price cuts roll out for UK and US stocks of the iPad 2. Those in the market for tech in the coming days will enjoy substantial savings of up to £100 with the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model iPad 2 coming in at a slim £330 and for the same amount of RAM but as a Wi-Fi and 3G model will set you back around £440 at some Brit retail outlets. However this isn’t quite as good as our overseas friends in the States who will pay a further $80-90 less on both versions, with the full benefits of Wi-Fi and 3G costing $530.
This news is breaking and reports of these price cuts are vague at best right now, so we will endeavour to bring you the updated facts as well as where you can find discounted iPad 2 stocks as soon as we find this information.
