We’re always eager and excited to hear potential specifications about the next iPhone, be it a rumour or potential confirmation of something we already expected.
Details have emerged that have all but confirmed our thoughts on the iPhone 5’s camera. A report filed in the Taiwan Economic News confirms that two manufacturers have been contacted by Apple already to produce the parts required for an 8-megapixel camera to go in the iPhone 5.
With the iPhone 4 featuring a 5-megapixel camera and many leading smartphones nowadays having an 8-megapixel camera, we’ve already been anticipating the upgrade to an 8MP snapper for the iPhone 5.
Taiwanese electronics manufacturers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical are the two companies that have been asked by Apple to produce the parts. You may not have heard of either company before, but both supplied the 5-megapixel camera for the iPhone 4, so their track records are good.
Over 100 million iPhone 4 handsets are expected to be sold before the end of this year, over double that of the 47 million sold in 2010. All of these handsets feature the 5-megapixel sensor made by Largan and Genius.
We thought Apple had slipped up earlier this month and left an iPhone 5 prototype in a bar, just as they did last year with a prototype iPhone 4 that landed in the hands of Gizmodo, but the story has turned out to be a hoax.
Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US are expecting to start learning about the iPhone 5 in the next month, with pre-sales beginning the first week of October.
