Apple has begun dishing out invitations to an exclusive media event on September 12th; the much-rumoured date of the iPhone 5’s reveal.
In typical Apple fashion, the invite doesn’t give away what they’re going to reveal at the event, until you look a little closer. In the case of this invite, the big clue is a little more obvious than the one on last year’s invite for the iPhone 4S event – look at the shadow of the 12 and you’ll see 5.
The invite has arrived just one day before Nokia and Microsoft are set to reveal a second generation of flagship Windows Phones at the Nokia World event, which no doubt Apple has timed on purpose to disrupt their fun.
As almost everyone who’s heard of the iPhone knows, the iPhone 5 is widely expected to launch this year after the iPhone 4S was launched as an update to the iPhone 4 in 2011. With Apple sticking with the same size, shape and design for two phones in a row, excitement has steadily built until reaching a fever pitch, as the world expects something new, different and exciting.
We already have a good idea of what Apple’s new product will look like, thanks to many parts leaking online. Several clever 3D designers have mocked up what the phone will look like based on the parts appearing online, resulting in a thinner and longer phone with a larger display, smaller dock connection and a large metal plate adorning the back.
Despite many sources and websites claiming to know almost everything about the next iPhone, most of the knowledge floating around online is still speculation. Apple has done a pretty good job at keeping plenty about its new phone under wraps, which should leave a good few surprises for next Wednesday. We’ll be bringing you the latest as it happens, so be sure to tune in.
