iPhone 5 Release Date: 15th October Says Orange Boss

  • by

It looks as though the iPhone 5 will be going on sale in the UK and Europe on Saturday October 15th, according to the CEO of France Telecom Stephane Richard.

Monsieur Richard seems pretty confident that he has the release date of the iPhone 5 correct, “from what he has heard”. Being the CEO of a major mobile network that operates in tens of countries worldwide, we’re fairly confident that he wouldn’t be handing out unconfirmed information.

Mobile networks such as France Telecom (which includes Orange) tend to only get their information on products and release schedules from the manufacturer themselves, so it’s quite possible Apple have already informed networks and retailers when they plan to launch the iPhone 5.

Stephane Richard isn’t shy when it comes to speaking out about the iPhone 5, either. Back in May of this year he spoke of the phone, as the rumour mill began to kick into the next gear. He was under the impression that the iPhone 5 would be of a slimmer design, and could potentially use a new, smaller SIM card.

When questioned about the new SIM card design back in May, Stephane said “We are going to work with them in order to standardize a new format of SIM which takes into account our needs with security and authentication and also is compatible with their wishes in terms of size,”

“I understood that the next iPhone would be smaller and thinner and they are definitely seeking some space,” he added.

Put it in your calendars folks, the iPhone 5 is getting closer..
