First iPhone 6 leak suggests wider, much thinner body

  • by

The iPhone 6 could be somehow even thinner than the iPhone 5S – and slightly wider, perhaps – according to the first leaked image that is supposedly of the next-gen phone’s chassis.

It’s about that time of year again, and as the big tech shows start and everyone else launches new phones and other gadgets, Apple is working on a new iPhone behind the scenes. The rumour mill always tends to kick up a gear in February, so we’re expecting this first image to signal the floodgates opening.

Coming from Chinese social media site Weibo, the images depict the bare silver shell of a much thinner, wider iPhone than we’ve ever seen. Of course, the source of the images is not a trusted one and so we’re taking it with a pinch of salt, but that doesn’t stop it from being exciting.

We’ve already heard reports from the likes of Bloomberg who believe that Apple will launch not one but two iPhones again this year, just as it did in 2013 with the iPhone 5S and the colourful 5C. This year we’ll apparently see an upgrade on the 5C and then a larger, more powerful flagship iPhone 6 that is to feature curved glass edges on the front. Bloomberg believes that both devices will feature larger screens than Apple has ever used on a mobile device – 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches respectively.

Taking a look at the two images it’s clear that the frame is intended for a wider and slightly taller device. The location and shape of the rear camera hole makes us feel that it’s likely to be intended for an iPhone, but we mustn’t forget that this could simply be one of many prototype designs that Apple is trying out.

Real or fake, Apple leaks always get the fans excited ahead of another annual product launch. This year we’re likely to see new iPhones in September and new iPads slightly later on in October.
