Things are really picking up for BlackBerry PlayBook fans of late. We’ve seen the launch of some big name apps recently, including ‘Angry Birds Space’ and ‘Plants Vs Zombies’, and now there are more on the way.
Research in Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry brand, has proudly announced that some of the biggest games that currently reside on Apple’s App Store will soon be making appearances in the BlackBerry App World. No fewer than 5 titles will be available from Halfbrick Studios, including our favourite: ‘Jetpack Joyride’.
Sonic the Hedgehog will zoom onto the PlayBook this month when ‘Sonic 4: Episode 1’ launches on the PlayBook, joining other addictive titles such as Fishlabs Entertainment’s ‘Galaxy on Fire 2’ and Glitchsoft’s ‘Star Marine’.
Head of Gaming at Research in Motion, Anders Jeppsson, took to his Twitter page last night to boast of the new games coming to the company’s tablet. He also confirmed that the new games will be made available for the exciting new BlackBerry 10 platform which will launch later this year, ushering in a new type of BlackBerry smartphone.
Jeppsson tweeted “#halfbrick will bring 5 games to #playbook and #blackberry10 ! Follow #bbwc for more great announcements!”
The Canadian Company’s annual BlackBerry World has just kicked off in Orlando, Florida, although it dashed the hopes of the tech press by confirming that no BlackBerry 10 products would be at the show. That hasn’t stopped a slew of pictures leaking to show early prototype phones that are running the software, which popped up earlier this week.
It now looks as though the battle for third spot between BlackBerry and Windows Phone – behind iPhone and Android – is well and truly on, with apps being a key weapon. Which is your favourite?
