Kickstarter Launched for Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Core

After teasing us on Twitter at the start of the week Pebble has delivered the goods by returning to its Kickstarter roots and announcing new crowd-funding projects for three new wearable products – the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Core.

Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2:

First up, the Pebble 2, which is the genetic successor to the original Pebble smartwatch which became a Kickstarter sensation in 2012.

As well as the familiar e-paper display, kitsch plastic framing and syncing abilities with iOS and Android for notifications and app alerts as found on the earlier model, version 2 is more focused on fitness and activity and comes in costing the same as the last edition did at $99.

It includes tracking tools and heart rate monitor with an updated suite of health apps. It’s also water resistant to 30 meters and is capable of holding its own 3G signal so can be used when running without the need to stash a smartphone down your shorts. The battery is said to last multiple days between charges too.

The Pebble Time 2 comes with all the same features including the waterproofing, but is the more stylish of the two siblings. Designed with a premium look and stainless steel finish it comes at a slightly higher price of $169. For the quality appearance and benefit of colour display it’s definitely looks worth paying the extra.

Pebble Core:

The Pebble Core is an interesting addition to the Pebble product family. It’s not a smartwatch – it’s a tiny little smart gadget that clips onto your clothing or a keychain – or practically anything, making it ultra-portable and ace for use during sports.

It lets you hook up some headphones via physical port or wireless with Bluetooth and connects to Spotify, as well as popular running apps such as Runkeeper, MapMyRun and Strava which are accurately tracked by the Pebble Core’s inbuilt GPS and 3G/WiFi connectivity.

The Pebble Core is also ‘hackable’ thanks to the Core SDK – meaning you can program it yourself to be able to perform a number of functions not on the pre-set menu. These can include tracking your pet or piloting a drone.

Battery life is clocked at 9 hours use offline and can be replenished using a supplied USB lead or wireless charging dock (sold separately) and the Pebble Core can be synced with other Pebble smartwatches. This little innovation with massive potential costs only $69.

There’s so much more we could tell you about each of these great new additions to the Pebble range and there are plenty of perks for throwing your dosh at these great products ready for shipping in January 2017.

Pebble continues to endear us with its charming and innovative wares and we really recommended you check out the latest Kickstarter page for all the details on the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Core.
