Killer Instinct will launch as a release day exclusive for Xbox One, delivering six characters and selection of basic play modes. Speaking from Gamescom in Cologne, the download-heavy remake’s Creative Director has predicted a full roster will become available in an update in February or March and has revealed a little more about the way the additional content will be released.
This means that from the initial launch with Xbox One in November/December there won’t be that much of a wait before all eight combatants including re-imagined classics such as Fulgore and Sabrewulf become playable.
This deliberately paced download schedule also gives gamers a bit of time to get to grips with the game in a training mode as well as the chance to challenge others in online multiplayer modes before a story mode launches, also in February/March.
Director Ken Lobb confirmed two packages will become available – a $20 pack which will offer all 8 characters with all colour costumes with an assortment of ‘special’ unlocked items, and a $40 pack again featuring all characters, all the colours, with different costume variants including classic look Jago and a playable version of the original Killer Instinct as it appeared in 1994.
Lobb also suggests that the story mode beginning in 2014 will expand into a ‘Season Two’ which, with hope, will start a yearly tradition for the relaunched Killer Instinct franchise.
