It doesn’t take a genius to find comparisons between the wonderful online world of Minecraft and all-time classic toy LEGO. The game that was clearly inspired by the toy will now come full circle in a partnership that was destined to be built – LEGO will make Minecraft inspired toys!
The ever-popular Danish toy range will welcome the sandbox-building video game invented by the Swedes in a perfect partnership and the first indication that the two were working together was officially announced by the games developer Mojang on the LEGO Cuusoo website earlier this morning.
LEGO Cuusoo is a Japanese run site in co-operation with LEGO, which offers those with a clever idea for future toy ranges to seek backing and garner support for their project.
Mojang posts a thank you note to the numerous gamers who pushed for the block-makers to find inspiration in the creative experience which draws so many parallels with the officially recognised World’s Best Toy. The post features some imaginative uses of LEGO in Minecraft themed scenes and reads “Seeing LEGO Minecraft sets is also our dream, so we linked to one of the projects. It’s clear to us that there are many creative people with good ideas for this and we want to throw our own hat into the ring and start this project to bring the best LEGO Minecraft builders together.”
“As the official Mojang LEGO Minecraft project, we will work with the LEGO Group to secure a licensing agreement and donate the 1% royalty from LEGO CUUSOO to charity. Let’s make LEGO Minecraft happen together!!”
Creative game Minecraft has been in existence since 2009 and is now widely available for desktop and laptop personal computers, as well as smartphones and tablets with a console range set for 2012. LEGO’s construction toys originated in the late 1940s and have been a mainstay in toy boxes worldwide for over 60 years and has consistently evolved, venturing into video games and licencing for movies such as Star Wars and Harry Potter in recent years.
