Right now, the G2 sits pretty at the top of the tree when it comes to LG’s smartphone range. All that is set to change within weeks, however, with the LG G Pro 2 launching at MWC next month.
The large phone-come-tablet has been pictured a few times in recent weeks, although nobody has really come forward to confirm the device’s internal specifications. Perhaps the clearest images of the device to date have been posted by Korean site DCInside, depicting a phone that looks to borrow from the design aspect of the LG G2.
A rear shot of the phone confirms that LG is continuing with its unique button placement, with the volume rocker and power button sitting directly below the rear camera on the back panel, the same as LG’s G2 and G Flex. The company claims that this location is the natural resting place for your index finger when holding the phone, though we’re not convinced that it’s going to catch on just yet.
From the pictures, we can tell that the G Pro 2 looks to be quite a slim and sleek device with a glossy white finish mixed in with a curvy silver side trim which reminds us of the white Samsung Galaxy S3. Other than that, distinguishing features are lacking and this looks to be another large smartphone falling into the 5-6-inch size range.
The LG G Pro 2 will be the successor to the Optimus G Pro, with LG opting to drop the ‘Optimus’ branding going forward. It will be separate from the G2 but similarly kitted out with high-end parts and is likely to have a similar price tag. Rumours have suggested that the G Pro 2 will pack a 6-inch Full HD display, speedy 2GHz+ quad-core Qualcomm processor and LTE-A mobile connectivity, which is essentially supercharged 4G that’s unfortunately not yet available in Europe.
Fortunately, the tale of the G Pro 2 is unlike most rumoured smartphones in that its manufacturer has already confirmed officially that it exists. LG also told us that the phone will launch next month at MWC, so stay tuned for the full and official reveal.
