Not keen on waiting for MWC to kick off next week, LG has officially announced its latest flagship Android smartphone; the Optimus G Pro. This phone has leaked before, and is LG’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
Sporting a huge 5.5-inch Full HD screen as its centrepiece, the Optimus G Pro tips the scales at the ‘large’ end of the smartphone scale. That display has the same resolution as your HD TV at home, sporting 1920 x 1080 pixels, representing 400 pixels per inch of screen.
Inside the phone the theme of super-powerful hardware continues, with 2GB of RAM and a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which LG claims will offer better battery life over other smartphones thanks to a more efficient design.
Speaking of battery life, a huge 3,140 mAh battery is packed into the G Pro, which is a fair amount larger than that of Samsung’s Galaxy Note II. Whilst we’ll need to test to confirm, we’d imagine this battery combined with the processor should see you through two days from a single charge.
The back of the phone houses a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash and Full HD video recording capabilities – the same sensor as used on LG’s Optimus G. Up front you’ve got a 2.1 megapixel camera for video calling and self-shots.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the operating system of choice for LG’s latest smartphone, skinned heavily with LG’s own theme, including widgets, apps and features.
Connectivity-wise there’s everything but the kitchen sink, as you’d expect from a flagship smartphone these days. The likes of Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA are all on board, crammed into a frame that’s a svelte 9.4mm thin.
The Optimus G Pro will go on sale first in LG’s homeland of South Korea later this month, with a US and worldwide launch not yet confirmed but expected for later in the year.
