LG Optimus 4X HD Announced with Quad-Core Tegra 3 and HD Screen

LG really does insist that you hear about its new phones right now – who needs Mobile World Congress anyway? The company has just announced a flagship smartphone known as the Optimus 4X HD.

Last year LG unveiled the Optimus 2X which featured Nvidia’s cutting-edge Dual-Core Tegra 2 processor. As you’ve probably guessed by now, the Optimus 4X HD features a Quad-Core processor – Nvidia’s new Tegra 3 to be precise. The HD tag is stamped on to show that this phone has a “True HD” IPS Screen, which is a hefty 4.7-inches in size, sporting an impressive resolution of 1280 x 720.

The specifications sheet for LG’s new powerhouse is really a no-holds barred event. There’s also 1GB of DDR2 RAM to back up the Tegra 3 chip, so this thing will really fly through the latest game titles, HD video content and web browsing. A reasonable 16GB of storage space is included, although just as with the release of LG’s Optimus 3D Cube, it doesn’t confirm if there is a Micro SD card slot or not.

Thankfully LG has decided to buck up its ideas and start shipping phones with the latest version of Android – so you guessed it, this beauty runs on Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

The imaging department is top-notch, with an 8-Megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-Megapixel front-facing job for crisp video calling. You’ll be able to stream your videos and snaps to web-connected TVs and other such smart devices using the inbuilt DLNA software, too.

The Optimus 4X HD has a huge screen, super-fast processor and plenty more tech to gobble up your battery faster than you can say backup battery, but LG has you covered there. They’ve upped the battery capacity by a fair amount, giving you a 2150mAh cell to ensure your phone lasts for a satisfactory amount of time.

Unlike the Optimus Vu and Optimus 3D Cube that LG just announced, this model will be coming to Europe before anywhere else, instead of Korea. LG tells us we can expect it to go on sale in the second quarter of this year, so within the next couple of months. No word on pricing just yet, but you can bet your boots it will be somewhere between £400-550.
