LG officially announced a brand new smartphone for the fashion conscious last night – the Prada 3.0 – and yes, it has really been designed by top fashion brand Prada.
After pictures and rumoured specifications leaked yesterday, the phone stepped out at LG’s big event in London last night, and seems to have surprised quite a lot of the tech media. LG has teamed up with Prada before to make phones, but they didn’t set the world on fire. Samsung has also teamed up with Hugo Boss and Emporio Armani to make swanky mobiles, but again with little success.
The LG Prada 3.0 packs in high specifications, combined with a subtle yet stylish design and software interface from Prada. The phone runs the latest version of Android – Gingerbread 2.3.7 – with a very cool looking black and white themed user interface, which has been designed by Prada to give the phone a very slick look.
The front of the phone features a large 4.3-inch NOVA display which offers an impressive 800 nits of brightness – which will make the blacks very deep and whites and colours vibrant and punchy.
Under the hood is a Dual Core 1GHz processor coupled with 1GB of Dual Channel RAM. You also get 8GB of internal storage space for your apps and media, which can then be expanded further using a Micro SD card slot. Interestingly, there’s an NFC chip tucked away in there too, meaning that you’ll be able to use the phone to make wireless file transfers and payments. Perhaps LG is hoping to implement NFC tags into Prada clothing and stores, to give Prada 3.0 phone owners exclusive deals or freebies.
On the back of the phone is an 8-Megapixel camera with a single LED flash, which is capable of snapping video at Full HD 1080p quality. The back plate of the phone which surrounds the camera has a nice dimpled effect, which we’re pretty fond of.
The Android interface of this phone isn’t like one you’ll be used to; gone are the greens, whites and robots everywhere, instead there are minimalistic icons and widgets available. The homescreen looks completely different, with each icon being redesigned to suit the very cool looking theme. Prada has even gone to the effort of redesigning the logos of some of the most popular apps, so you won’t ruin your home screen by adding a bright red Angry Birds Logo – instead it will fit nicely into the white and minimalistic theme.
We haven’t been given a price or release date for the LG Prada 3.0 yet, though we can imagine that if they don’t price it too highly, it could be a very popular phone.
