LG Prepping DL1 Smartphone For May Launch – Android ICS Rival to Samsung Galaxy SIII (S3)

LG appears to be building a new weapon to add to its smartphone arsenal, ready to launch in time to go head-to-head in a blockbuster smash with Samsung’s next Galaxy S, which is now speculated to be unveiled on May 22nd in the United Kingdom (if a recently “leaked” invite is anything to go by).

LG may attempt to get its contender in a little bit before, to sway an early advantage and its first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich based device currently codenamed the LG D1L is said to include a 4.7-inch HD display, rivalling that believed to be arriving with the heavyweight Samsung Galaxy SIII – this as well as 1.5GHz MSM8960 dual-core processor courtesy of Qualcomm.

After countless swerves and denials by Samsung (the MWC no-show and non-eventful Galaxy Tab 2 launch for example) LG may look to capitalise on consumer’s lack of patience for a Galaxy SIII and could (maybe) grab a portion of the market before Sammy pulls the finger out and gives the people what they’re asking for.

Hesitancy and reluctance to offer up official information about the SGIII may be costly for Samsung as LG is a little more forthcoming and in a statement says it is “developing a project with the name D1L but cannot offer any more information”.
