LG has sent out a load of “save the date” invitations to the launch of the ‘next in the Optimus G line’ for the end of May where the Korean company is looking set to out the long rumoured LG Optimus G2 Android smartphone to the world (via China first!)
The announcement will take place on Thursday 30th of May 2013 in Macau and the invites themselves have a picture of an Optimus handset with a colour splash oncoming out of the screen that is styled to look like the wings of a butterfly. On the front is a simple “Imagination Begins” tagline and “Save The Date” below.
The handset pictured looks slim as it’s taken from the side but other than that the image doesn’t give away many clues. However, it’s thought that the LG Optimus G2 is set to see a new level of IPS LCD technology which will take the fight to both Samsung and Sony – hence the vibrant splash of colour seemingly coming out of the screen.
Now we are purely guessing at the fact the handset set for release will be the LG Optimus G2 that has seen numerous leaks online over the past few months, so we are going to go out on a limb and say that that the Macau event will be the phone’s official announcement.
However, for us in the UK and Europe, the announcement in China doesn’t bode well in terms of getting the handset to our shores any time soon. LG has already admitted that the Optimus phone is ‘planned to launch in Asia’ first, and then we can only hope for a US and Europe release later on in 2013.
The G2 has been rumoured to feature a 13MP camera with a 5-inch Full HD display, running off a super-fast 2GHz processor which will run the latest Android 4.2.2 operating system, but the real star of the show is reported to be the IPS LCD screen.
We’ll need to wait until May 30th to find out for certain what LG has in store.
