LG has launched the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition – the first Android Wear device to come capable of LTE / 4G connectivity.
The original LG Watch Urbane arrived back in April this year, combining the elegant style of a traditional watch and the functionality of a smart device – something others that came before it hadn’t managed to do. Most were clearly chunks of tech attached to a wrist strap but the Urbane was able to pass discretely while also turning heads as a legit looking piece of jewellery.
With the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition the aesthetic design has received a bit of a spruce up, with a few new leather and plastic strap options and the stainless steel frame around the touchscreen 480 x 480p face seems to be a little bit sportier than before. The main addition to the tech specs is the addition of that LTE connectivity which means no Wi-Fi connection or smartphone tethering is required to bring up messages and view notifications from favourite apps and useful tools such as LG Health.LG CEO Juno Cho says in the press release “Keeping people connected to the world is our business and the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition was designed specifically to meet the needs of customers who want to communicate anytime, anywhere” he adds “The wearable category is still in its infancy and we plan to continue introducing exciting devices that appeal to a diverse audience.”
The LG Watch Urbane 2 has been announced for US mobile network AT&T today and will come in at $499.99 to buy or for slightly lesser cost of $449.99 with a two year contract. Other networks and countries will follow. We await a UK and Europe announcement.
