Apple has announced that its latest version of the Mac OS X software called Mountain Lion is to be released today (July 25th) for Mac users, at a small cost.
The announcement was made during Apple’s Q3 earnings call where the Cupertino Company stated that the OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion update would be released today, and will be available to Mac OS users for a price of around £14 in the UK through the Mac App Store.
Mountain Lion will feature a host of small upgrades to features such as Reminders, Notifications and Twitter integration, as well as iMessages, Notes, and Game Center, plus the new iCloud syncing capabilities.
iCloud syncing will allow users to to upload and synchronise music, photos and other files with Apple’s iCloud online storage, and they can also send messages over the web to other Macs, iPhones and iPads, as OS X Mountain Lion contains iMessage.
A few weeks ago Apple made users aware that the new Mountain Lion OS X update won’t work on all Macs, as customers with the older 64-bit systems not receiving the update as Apple move away from its older Macs.
Here’s the list of Mountain Lion supporting Macs:
- iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
- MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
Additionally the Mountain Lion update will be easier to install as when installed OS X 10.8, will use your Apple ID to automatically set up Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Messages, FaceTime and Find My Mac so backing up and transferring is not needed.
