Unbeknown to most, Apple are actually giving away free downloads of their new software, Mac OS X Lion, to anyone who has purchased a Mac between June 6th and now (July 21st).
That’s right, put your money away! If you purchased an iMac, Macbook, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro or Mac Mini from the Online Apple Store, an Apple retail store or even an authorised Apple product reseller, you’re entitled to claim a free download of OS X Lion. That’s a saving of £20.99 (or $29.99 if you’re stateside!).
Apple have a page hidden away on their website dedicated to the upgrade program, you can find it here. All you have to do is click ‘Redeem from the Apple Online Store’ and tell Apple your product, Date of Purchase, Serial Number and Place of Purchase info. Once this goes through you’ll be given a code which can be entered at the checkout in the Mac App Store to redeem your free download of Lion.
Apple launched OS X Lion, the latest upgrade to their operating system for Mac, yesterday along with new Mac Mini and Macbook Pro devices. The software features new multi-touch gestures, Launchpad and Mission Control amongst 250 other new features.
Fortunately for me I purchased a Macbook Pro within the specified time frame so I’ll be heading home and getting my free copy of Lion! Will you? Don’t forget, you have to apply for a free copy before August 19th.
