Just like HP’s WebOS, Intel and Nokia’s MeeGo operating software has had a premature end brought to a once promising push. After an optimistic promotional charge for the Nokia N9 the Finnish co decided to pull the release of its mobile phone in most countries, including the UK, USA and much of Europe – to concentrate on the release of Windows Phone 7.5 handsets.
Intel has now spoken to a tech website revealing that the cause for MeeGo’s early demise was a ‘lack of enthusiasm for the platform from handset and tablet vendors’. Seeing as the only host for the MeeGo software was the N9, the lack of handsets in much of the world would of course make the purpose of its native software to become redundant.
Despite Nokia’s withdraw of the N9 smartphone, Intel will be continuing with MeeGo – in the future. But for now sadly they are putting further development aside. The market, for now, will also continue to be dominated by Android and iOS – until of course the arrival of Windows Phone 7.5 (formerly Mango).
