Microsoft accidentally (on purpose) leaks new Social project Tulalip

It would seem that Microsoft has pulled a bit of a publicity stunt in “accidentally” putting up a live website for a new Social website called Tulalip, then quickly taking it offline.

The green page with distinctive Microsoft styling appeared earlier today welcoming you to Tulalip. “With Tulalip you can Find what you need and Share what you know easier than ever” reads the blurb from the homepage.

At first we thought this was Microsoft’s secret Social Network but then we saw Facebook and Twitter integration buttons, so perhaps Tulalip isn’t aimed to take on Facebook in the social networking space. The words “find” and “share” are capitalised on the home page, pointing towards Tulalip being a content sharing page rather than pure social networking.

Shortly after the website was pulled, the following statement was posted on another Microsoft-owned website, socl.com:

“Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. We didn’t mean to, honest.”

The message seems to have a rather humorous tone to it which gives us the impression that Microsoft either don’t care that the site was leaked, or that they meant it to happen. Most probably the latter.

What do you think Microsoft have got planned with Tulalip? Our money is on a content sharing, social styley app that will be integrated into Windows Phone Mango. Let’s hear your guesses, send them to our Official Twitter Page.
