With October ticking away the biggest event of the month is coming up fast. No, we’re not talking about the new James Bond movie, we’re talking about Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system announcement that is scheduled for October 29th.
Microsoft has now sent out their UK invites to press (sadly not us) for an event where the big M will introduce its new Windows Phone 8 OS to the world (more specifically the UK) and where they will unveil the full release information, features and first line of handsets.
The press event will be held in London on October 29th at 5pm BST and the invite has invited people to “Meet Windows Phone 8”, with a picture of the Windows Phone home screen with Big Ben in the background.
What is odd though is that the phone that Big Ben is displayed on, whilst having no specific phone information on it, does have a LTE icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. Now we know that several of the WP8 sporting phones will be supporting 4G connectivity but will the LTE connection be a bigger part of the Windows Phone 8 release information? We’ll need to wait to find out.
We are expecting to see some big name handsets on the release day as we already know that Nokia and HTC have put their Windows Phone 8 sporting phones out there already in the form of the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 and the HTC 8X and 8S.
We saw a small amount of information regarding the Windows Phone 8 software when the phone OS was originally announced back in July but Microsoft has said that there is a lot more to WP8 that they have to share with the world.
The event coincides with a stateside event in San Francisco that was announced last week, so hopefully the two announcements won’t have too many variations so we can follow just the one and bring you all the juicy updates.
We can also expect to see a lot more of the fabled Windows Phone 7.8 OS that will be coming to older Windows phones.
