Microsoft has taken another step in Android and Apple’s footsteps and has updated its Windows Phone Marketplace online website with a new feel and the ability to download Apps directly from the website to your handset.
Customers with a Windows Phone 7 smartphone can access the marketplace and download Apps as per usual but now users who are stuck at a PC can access the online Marketplace browse and investigates the apps and then set them to be downloaded to their mobiles.
Previously users would need to download and install the Zune PC software to receive Apps direct to the handset, allowing you to download the apps and install them via the PC suite. The new system, which is a big feature for Google Android handsets, will allow users to quickly access the marketplace from wherever they are via browser and add new and paid apps to their smartphones.
Users will be able to buy apps using their Windows Live ID account details and have their credit card charged with the purchase. A link to the app will then be sent directly to the user’s phone to download the app directly, saving you the bother of connecting the phone to a PC or Mac.
The new Marketplace website is currently live in the US with a UK update coming shortly, but with no specific dates set out.
