Microsoft Officially Teases a Range of Smaller Windows 8 Surface Tablets

After much rumour Microsoft has now officially gone on the record to state it will be developing a pocket-sized iPad Mini rival based on its Windows 8 operating system.

The future tablets will follow suit with the Microsoft Surface range but will bring the hardware down to smaller than the average ten-inches. Bringing the size of the Surface into the 7 to 8 inch tablet market will offer a Windows alternative to slim line slates such as the aforementioned iPad Mini and Android-based gadgets such as the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD.

There’s not a lot to go on at the moment in the way of hard facts about the new Windows 8 tablets, only that they will be ‘smaller’ and there are no spec details to salivate over just yet. But Peter Klein, CFO of Microsoft, reported to tech source the Verge that a “new suite of small touch devices powered by Window” meaning we’ll likely see a few of the little blighters very soon.
