Microsoft has vowed to resolve a number of teething issues found in its new Windows Phone 8 software next month, by means of an over the air update.
If you’ve recently picked up one of the new Windows Phone 8 smartphones on the market, such as the Nokia Lumia 920 or Windows Phone 8X by HTC, you may have experienced one or two of the problems. Users have been reporting random reboots, poor battery life and even freezing.
These problems are said to be rooted to the new software itself rather than the phones, which thankfully means that Microsoft can send out a swift update to patch them. Having said that, reports are suggesting that the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Windows Phone 8X by HTC are the most commonly affected.
Microsoft has worked with its hardware partners – Nokia, Samsung, HTC and the like – and has identified a cause of the problem. While it didn’t elaborate on the cause or why it happens, it confirmed that phones were freezing up, rebooting at random and also lasting far less than their expected battery lives.
In a statement issued to TechCrunch earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed that a fix would be on the way soon:
“We’re continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December.”
So, provided your device is connected to Wi-Fi you should be able to install this update as and when it drops without the need for any cables or computers. To check for updates head into Settings then the Phone Update subsection.
