Microsoft has done another big deal today and has announced that it will be adding Facebook integration to its Bing search results to offer a marriage of fact-based search results and your friends’ street smarts.
Microsoft is looking to offer its Bing users a different type of search which will incorporate its usual search engine scope but this time with information and likes from your friends affecting the search results you see.
It would seem that Microsoft is trying to differentiate itself away from Google and offer something a bit different for its searchers, and as Google and Facebook have a long history of hatred between each other its seems that Microsoft are cosying up to rival Google’s enemy.
Microsoft announced the partnership via its Bing blog and stated:
“Starting today, you can receive personalized search results based on the opinions of your friends by simply signing into Facebook,”
“New features make it easier to see what your Facebook friends “like” across the web, incorporate the collective know-how of the web into your search results, and begin adding a more conversational aspect to your searches.”
“Decisions can now be made with more than facts, now the opinions of your trusted friends and the collective wisdom of the web.”
In recent weeks Microsoft have been on a bit of a spending and investment spree with the company buying Skype outright for a massive $8.5 billion, reportedly looking to buy Nokia’s mobile phone division and now teaming up with Facebook… it would seem Microsoft are building towards some big things.
