Mozilla Firefox 4 tops 13 million downloads in its first two days

  • by

Firefox 4, the long-awaited new version of Mozilla’s hugely popular web browser, was finally launched on March 22nd to fanfare and applause. At only two days old it’s still in its infancy, but that hasn’t stopped it from clocking up over 13 million downloads worldwide.

Mozilla’s site sports a ticker to track download numbers, and the big 13,000,000 was hit overnight. At the time of writing, the count is edging nearer to 14 million, which must surely happen within the next 24 hours. It’s a strong showing against the likes of Internet Explorer 9, which also launched recently boasting a raft of new features.

The new browser, which is available for Windows, Mac and Linux, boasts a “new look”, “super speed” and “even more awesomeness” – most of which boils down to speeds 6 times quicker than before and support for HTML5.
