You may not have heard of it before but you should definitely be looking out for this show in the not too distant future. Mystery Science Theater was originally created by Joel Hodgson who is best known as a stand-up comedian and creator of this cult favorite.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3k) will be revived in a little under two months from now on Netflix. Originally aired in 1988, the show was proclaimed as being one of Time magazine’s “100 Best TV Shows of All” back in 2007.
The show was based around the idea of two mad scientists ( Dr. Clayton Forrester & Dr. Laurence Erhardt) who launch a janitor ( Joel Robinson)working for the Gizmonic Institute into space on the orbiting Satellite of Love, cunningly crafted in the shape of a dogbone. The scientists operate this flying dog treat from their secret Deep 13 underground base and systematically force Joel to watch a series of B Movies in the hopes of discovering the perfect B Movie to use as a weapon in the mad scientists schemes for world domination!
Thanks to Netflix, fans will again be able to enjoy the Satellite of Love as it graces our skies and screens once more. Netflix announced they will be airing the revival on Friday April 14th 2017.
The photo of the new cast is shown above. Jonah Ray is there of course; voice actor from Adventure Time. The cast also includes none other than Felicia Day (far left), star and creator of ‘The Guild’ who will be starring as Kinga Forrester, daughter of Clayton. It will also feature Patton Oswalt (far right) famed for many shows including Brooklyn 911, Archer, Rick and Morty to name a few!
The show was ahead of its time in many ways and seems very aligned with internet humour even though it came out in the late 80’s which is impressive and lends a degree of excitement to the upcoming rebirth of this fan favorite.
We shall be looking forward to seeing it in the very near future!
