After recently updating the Netflix library in the UK and US to list all episodes of cult kids TV show Pee Wee’s Playhouse- including its Christmas Special – it’s now been announced that a brand new Pee Wee Herman movie will be made exclusively for the streaming service.
The 80s film favourite Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is still much beloved by many grown-ups who remember it fondly for it’s outrageous and cartoonish skits – including the frankly terrifying ‘Large Marge’ scene. The film was directed by a little known first time director named Tim Burton and spawned Pee Wee’s Playhouse – a surreal but educational and morally grounded TV show, as well as a sequel called Big Top Pee Wee.The Netflix-only sequel will be filmed thirty years after the original movie was released and will be directed by Knocked Up and The 40-Year Old Virgin’s Judd Apatow. It will of course see the return of the inimitable Paul Reubens in the lead role, who despite being 62-years old now, has continued to embody the character of bow-tied man-child Pee Wee at celebrity events and on his own comedy shows. He has spoken out for some time about a new movie being in the works and rumours suggest it will be based on the TV show, featuring characters seen in the Playhouse. As of yet no title or plot have been revealed but we now know where it’ll be found. Today’s secret word is NETFLIX!
